My Role
UX UI Design
Brand Design
Empowering Healthcare Providers with Streamlined Documentation
The existing core product, conceptualized in the early 2000s, demanded a revamp to match with contemporary digital health services. The focal point was a redesign of the UI components within the mobile application and web portal. Simultaneously, enhancing the user experience was imperative, stemming from client feedback and the outcomes of a comprehensive UX audit. The goal was to address lingering pain points and evolve the experience to align with standards of competitive healthcare providers.
Mobile App & Web Portal Revamp
Through a dual-focused approach, we reimagined the mobile dictation app and revitalized the web portal. The mobile app's redesigned capability harmonizes with providers' schedules while the web portal empowers users with enhanced report management tools, improving workflows and patient care.
Competitive Analysis
Navigating the realm of speech-to-text dictation, we undertook a comprehensive competitive analysis across platforms catering to both general users and healthcare providers.
Take Aways
• Dictation apps prioritize essential actions, centring on recording functionalities
• Visual simplicity takes precedence, thoughtfully designed to minimize distractions
• The user journey is enriched through clear visual indicators such as play, pause, and skip controls, enhancing user comprehension and engagement
Opportunities
• A notable absence of modern dictation applications tailored specifically for healthcare providers, presenting a distinctive opportunity for innovation
• The general user segment is inundated with well-established and widely-used dictation apps for design inspiration
UX Audit
Within DeliverHealth eScription One, two core services exist—a user-friendly mobile scheduling and dictation tool, coupled with a web portal for reviewing, editing, searching, and authenticating transcriptions. Since these services aren't always used together, we focused on understanding each one's functions. Our UX audit uncovered a challenge: the visual and naming consistency between the two services needed improvement.
Platform Taxonomy
We created a detailed list of categories for the web portal and mobile app to understand how they work. This helped us see repeated ways to access features and simplify the UI. By organizing and categorizing the platform's components, we were able to enhance user interaction and streamline the overall experience.
Opportunities
• Uncovered multiple entry points for the same feature
• Primary actions to edit transcriptions were hidden behind multiple clicks
• Identified redundant summary pages
Wireframing
Given the distinct nature of the mobile app and web portal within DeliverHealth's ecosystem, where customers might not always use both products together, we took a dual approach to design. Each interface was crafted to function independently, while maintaining a consistent brand language that resonates across both. This approach ensured intuitive usability while fostering a cohesive experience, regardless of the product in use.
Mobile Dictation and Scheduling
• Prioritized clear patient scheduling
• Streamlined primary actions for dictation recording
• Reduced interface clutter, emphasized status-based labeling for scheduled transcriptions
Web Dashboard Transcription Management
• Revamped navigation to a modern left-hand horizontal layout, fitting the low menu item count
• Simplified home dashboard, presenting all information at a glance to eliminate feature-search efforts
• Leveraged visual charts to depict transcription progress
Final Design
While the web portal and mobile app stand as integral parts of DeliverHealth's platform, their independent use prompted a nuanced approach to design. Striking a balance between similarity and distinction, we fashioned a design language that maintains cohesion while acknowledging the unique contexts of each service. This parallel evolution of aesthetics ensures a consistent user experience across both products, further bolstering DeliverHealth's unified brand presence.
Web Portal Refresh
• The new design offers a unified overview of healthcare providers' transcriptions, scheduling, and patient reports
• Task prioritization is situated at the top of the dashboard, facilitating easy identification of outstanding items
• Navigation items are vertically reorganized based on a heuristic evaluation of platform taxonomy
Mobile Transcriptions and Scheduling
• The original concept of accessing transcriptions via a healthcare provider's schedule remained, now enhanced with focused UI elements
• Icons and colors were thoughtfully linked to key actions within the user flow of creating, editing, and uploading transcriptions
• The design introduced a Floating Action Button (FAB) to prominently feature the primary action of adding new transcriptions, a function previously concealed in the earlier design
Visual Indicators
Introducing visual indicators was pivotal in enhancing user experience, particularly for healthcare providers seeking quick insights into transcription statuses. This design innovation empowers them to grasp the status of transcriptions at a glance, facilitating efficient decision-making and workflow management.
Results
The project yielded overwhelmingly positive outcomes. Early user reviews highlight positive experiences, and product customers are impressed by the impact on their healthcare practices.
